A while back the Toronto Star had an article that included lists of charities for knitters. I've reproduced the list below.
I'm posting this as yesterday on Ravelry someone posted a request for baby hats and receiving blankets for preemies. She is located in Nunavut and in the town she is in, babies don't have these items and are kept warm with those aluminum foil blankets (which really can't be considered blankets can they?)
Someone else posted this super easy pattern for baby hats. I use a pattern from the book Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. You can see the pics of a few finished baby hats I did here.

Nathaniel is my nephew. He's about 3 weeks old now and very sweet the way all newborns are.
Anyways, since it's winter and I didn't have a chance to make him anything until now, I whipped off a couple of hats. I've decided hats are my new favourite thing right now. Easy to make, easy to make them individual by making patterns (in my case stripes) and any yarn works! The first hat I made is tiny and should fit him now. It's purple and lime green striped. The second hat is bigger for when he's a toddler. It's blue and brown/taupe striped. Oh and the first hat has earflaps and ties. I've posted pics in the Baby Hat folder. Sunday, December 23

So today I became a member of Ravelry. They're still in beta and you can add your name to their list and then wait for the invitation.
I have to say, I was pretty excited when I got my email! It is VERY cool. So here's how they describe themselves: "Ravelry is a place for knitters, crocheters, designers, spinners, and dyers to keep track of their yarn, tools and pattern information, and look to others for ideas and inspiration." It'll take me some time to get all my stuff in there - but it's ridiculously easy to use. You can keep track of everything. Love it. Besides that, I've still been knitting up a bunch of stuff for Christmas. Finished off another scarf, cell phone covers and today a scarf for my Dad for Christmas. It's made of a cashmere blend - quite soft and the yarn was really nice to work with. I used a pattern from One Skein. It combines ribs and cables. I am thinking of making him some matching fingerless gloves to go with it. Depends on how much time I have between now and Sunday night really... |
