View Article  Omigosh! My sushi got featured on Etsy
I got an email today telling me my sushi was featured on Treasury West on Etsy.

Admittedly, I have no idea what Treasury West is, or how many people go to that page, but I have to admit I think this is pretty cool. Pretty cool indeed!

View Article  Featured on IndieNorth's Blue Gallery!
So how cool is this? IndieNorth.com pulled together a "Something Blue" Gallery on their site today (the theme obviously is handmade items that are blue...)

Anyways, one my little blue felted flowers was featured in the mix! I'm #2. Yay!

You can check it out here.

P.S. For those of you not familiar with Indie North (I only just recently discovered them myself!) they're a Canadian Indie Business Collective.

View Article  Giant needles = handknitted chairs
So a friend of mine emailed me to tell me about these hand knitted beanbag types chairs that were featured in the Globe today.

They're called Flocks Poufs and on sale at DWR.

When you go to the site, make sure you click on the zoom/additional views. They have a picture of the designer with these absolutely GIANT knitting needles. They're awesome.

View Article  ARTICLE: Knit your own celebrity with Little Big Planet
Knitted Madonna from Little Big PlanetI was reading an article on Marie Claire about the game Little Big Planet (which if you haven't seen yet is very cool. I haven't played the game myself but I've seen screen shots and read reviews of it and the scenery looks like it was all cut out of bits and pieces of stuff and sewed or glued together. Super crafty. Apparently the game itself is quite good too.) Check out the game here.

Anyways, Little Big Planet is planning on releasing a bunch of knitted patterns of celebs. I don't know how much the patterns will be except that they will be limited editions (of course!) and come complete with accessories. (So I assume that means with all the yarn and sequins that you'll need to make them.) Madonna and Amy Winehouse are a couple of the celebrities that you'll be able to knit up. Neat-o.

View Article  handmade nation
So a friend of mine emailed me today about this new documentary that is in the works right now called "handmade nation".

You can check out a clip here. (There's a book too.)

Basically it's about a woman (Faythe Levine) who documents the new wave of craft across America. She chats to alot of people including some well known crafters like Jenny Hart and Knitta.

Very cool.

View Article  Knitted Sock Wars

Ok how crazy is this?

I just found and read this article about "Sock Wars". It's a knitted twist on an old game apparently.
"In Sock Wars, each participant knits a pair of socks for another player and mails them to their target. Players are eliminated from the contest — or “killed” — when they receive the socks. Once they receive the socks that kill them from the game, participants have to mail the socks on which they were working to their assassins. The assassins then must finish those socks and ship them to their intended targets. All the time, assassins are hoping they don’t first receive their own killer socks from another assassin. The last assassin knitting wins."

You can read the article "One killer knitting circle" here.

I think the Sock Wars started on the blog Yarnivation.
View Article  Knitting Charities
A while back the Toronto Star had an article that included lists of charities for knitters. I've reproduced the list below.

I'm posting this as yesterday on Ravelry someone posted a request for baby hats and receiving blankets for preemies. She is located in Nunavut and in the town she is in, babies don't have these items and are kept warm with those aluminum foil blankets (which really can't be considered blankets can they?)

Someone else posted this super easy pattern for baby hats. I use a pattern from the book Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. You can see the pics of a few finished baby hats I did here.
View Article  Back and knitting like mad...
I have terribly neglected my blog these days.

I have been busy - knitting ridiculously...

A friend of mine has been fundraising for a charity and I've been knitting up a storm to help her out: scarves, iPod socks, cell phone cases, fingerless gloves/wrist warmers (which I somehow forgot to take pictures of!), facecloths that are in the shape of flowers... (Charity details below as well as where she'll be selling.)

I'll be uploading all the pics today.

Last night I decided it was time to organize my yarn and it turns out I have a pretty large stash. (And yes it could be bigger!) I also discovered a big pile of yarn of a scarf I started for myself last winter and ended up not finishing having been distracted by doing projects for other people. I don't know about anyone else, but to date, I have only made ONE item for me. I'm thinking I should recify that and  finish this scarf and also make  myself something else that I have wanted to do in ages. (The list is long!)

I also put together a Christmas list of little things I want to make for friends and family. Hopefully I'm not starting too late and will be able to get it all done in time!

Anyways more details about the charity events I've been helping support:
Nov. 10-11 Upper Canada Mall
January 10th- Raffle prize afghan to win - Yuk Yuk's event
January 26-27 Yorkdale Mall
Feb. 2-3 Vaughan Mills
All for the same charity: www.sandraschmirler.org and the tourney: www.kurlforkids.com

Please go visit and support her cause. She'll have lots of stuff - not just what I've made for her. Think Christmas or birthday gifts!

Have a good one!
